Pre-Clinical Elective Opportunities
“Clinical Tropical Medicine Course”
Fall Semester, IM 618 – 2 credits
Pre-Requisites: Students must have been admitted to the College of Human Medicine. This course is designed specifically for second year students.
Students can enroll by computer, please see Barb Sinclair in the COM Student Affairs office if problems arise. Students may also contact Dr. Taylor at taylort@msu.edu. Dr. Taylor is working in Malawi normally from January to June.
Time Offered: Normally T and Th 12:00 to 12:50 p.m., occasionally W 12:00 to 1:50 p.m. E 109 Fee Hall. Due to Dr. Taylor needing to leave for field work, this course finishes the end of the first week in November.
General Description: Dr. Terry Taylor offers a pre-clinical elective during fall semester (course number IM 618 – 2 credits) to prepare students for taking her Clinical Tropical Medicine Clinical Elective in Malawi.
Dr. Taylor has worked in Sub-Saharan Africa for the past 15 years, and will cover specific diseases (malaria, schistomiasis. AIDS and trypanosomiasis) as well as disease syndromes (fever, diarrhea, anemia).
Evaluation: Students have three options for evaluation: weekly quizzes, a written paper, or a take home exam.
