Health Care Interviewing of
Spanish-Speaking Patients
Academic Credit: 1 credit
Instructional Objectives:

To develop language and cultural skills in conducting health-care interviews in Spanish
·
To acquire requisite health-related vocabulary in Spanish
·
To develop interviewing techniques
·
To acquire understanding of cultural issues necessary to retrieve accurate data in medical interviews with Spanish-speaking patients
Prerequisites:

Academic preparation in Human or Osteopathic Medicine or Nursing
·
Previous experience in Spanish (formal or informal) with a level of proficiency in Spanish equivalent to that acquired in a university second-year program.

Prior to enrolling, each student must contact instructor to arrange an interview: mansour@msu.edu.
Instructional Model:
A lecture/recitation model in which students actively participate both as interviewers and interviewees in Spanish.
Required Instructional Materials:
Instructional materials will be available in a course packet with additional ones distributed via web page and e-mail.
Academic Credit: 1 credit, HM 591 Sec. 003. Students are encouraged to enroll on a Pass/No Pass credit basis
