Scholarship Information
Blake Smith Memorial Primary Health Care Endowed Scholarship
The MSU Department of Family Practice accepts applications until October 31 each year.
Funding is available up to $1000 each for several awards. In previous years, CHM students going to Malawi with Dr. Terri Taylor have won awards. The student group that went to Cuba with MEDICC in 2003 received an award, and a student won an award to perform research in Peru for a year. Herbert L. Whittier Endowed International Health Scholarship Award
Applications are due by October 31 each year. Several awards are available up to $1000 each. Awards have been provided to students for clinical elective rotations and for performing research. Contact Institute of International Health at iih@msu.edu; web address is www.msu.edu/unit/iih
MSU Office of Study Abroad
Students who intend to participate in a program offered through the MSU Office of Study Abroad, such as the Costa Rica Spring Break or London Medical Ethics programs are eligible for scholarships. Deadlines vary. Check the web site for information and applications:
Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship Program
Several CHM students have received FLAS scholarships to study medical Spanish, which is considered to be a less commonly taught language. Awards are also available to study other less commonly taught languages. Some CHM students combine study of a language with service at a health clinic. FLAS scholarships cannot be used for Office of Study Abroad programs.
